Battery Backup & Load Shedding Power in Mabopane

01 / How it works

How battery backup works

A battery backup system pairs a hybrid inverter with a lithium battery. While the grid is up, your panels charge the battery and run your home. When the grid drops — load shedding or a fault — the inverter switches to battery power in milliseconds, so lights, fridge, TV and wifi stay on without you touching a thing.

You choose what's backed up: just the essentials (lights, fridge, wifi, security) on a separate essential-loads circuit, or the whole house if the battery bank is sized for it.

• —Hybrid inverter + lithium battery, charged by solar or grid
• —Automatic, millisecond changeover when the power drops
• —Essential-loads circuit or whole-home backup
• —Silent and fume-free — no generator

02 / Choosing a battery

Choosing the right battery

Battery size is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). The right size depends on how much you want to keep running and for how long. We use lithium batteries — they last far longer than lead-acid, tolerate deeper discharge, and need no maintenance.

We factor in usable capacity (depth of discharge), your nightly usage, and whether you want to stretch through a long Stage 6 evening or just bridge short outages.

• —Lithium (LiFePO4) over lead-acid — longer life, deeper discharge
• —Usable kWh, not just advertised capacity
• —Runtime for your essential loads through a typical evening
• —Room to add more batteries later as needs grow

03 / Retrofits

Adding batteries to an existing system

Already have solar but no storage? Reyds retrofits batteries onto compatible existing inverters, or upgrades an older inverter to a hybrid model so your panels can charge a battery. We'll check what you have and tell you straight what's possible.
